Vale Peter Hall

Vale Peter Hall

Vale Peter Hall

It with great sadness that the Upwey Fire Brigade announces the passing of 56 year veteran Peter Hall after a very short battle with cancer.
Peter joined the brigade in April 1968 and spent the majority of his life serving and protecting the people of Upwey and Victoria. His list of achievements in the CFA is extensive.

  • Apparatus Officer
  • Communication Officer
  • Foreman
  • 2nd Lieutenant
  • 1st Lieutenant ( 22 years )
  • National Medal 3rd Clasp
  • National Emergency Medal ( 2009 fires )
  • Upwey Fire Brigade Life Membership

Peter was also the driving force behind the Anthony and Travis Hall memorial driver education fund which was formed after Peter’s two boys were tragically killed in an automobile accident. This fund has since provided defensive driver training to many young CFA members and in the process has potentially saved countless lives.

On top of all this Peter was an ever present mentor, driver educator and friend to many in the brigade and his presence around the station will be sorely missed.
The brigade sends it’s heartfelt condolences to Liz, Marcella and Peter’s extended family.
The flag in Upwey will fly at half mast from tomorrow (Sunday) to pay respect to Peter.
Funeral arrangements are unknown at this stage.

Thankyou Peter. We’ll miss you but you are with your boys again.

Smoke Alarms For Hearing Impaired

Smoke Alarms for Hearing Impaired

Specialised Smoke Alarms.

An important fire safety message from CFA is  “working smoke alarms save lives”.

A working smoke alarm can detect the presence of smoke and alert you by sounding a loud audible alarm.

But what if you are hearing is impaired?  Did you know there are specialised smoke alarms available for people who may have difficulty hearing standard smoke alarms and evacuation systems.

The main body of the unit looks like a normal smoke alarm on your ceiling. The other parts are a strobe light (sight) and vibrating pad (tactile) for your bed. In the event of a fire, all alarms will sound, the lights will flash, and the vibrating pad will activate.

If you or someone you know might need a specialised smoke alarm visit cfa.vic.gov.au/smokealarms

Fire Danger Period Update April 2024

Fire Danger Period Update 2024

The Fire Danger Period for Knox City Council, Manningham Council, Maroondah City Council and Yarra Ranges Council will be lifted as of 1am Monday 15th April 2023.

If you burn off after the conclusion of the Fire Danger Period, please be mindful that it is easy to lose control of your small burn-off. You can refer to the CFA brochure ‘Are you burning off safely?’ to ensure your burn remains safe and legal. Take care and make sure you have water available at all times and never leave your burn-off unattended.

Your local CFA Brigade can provide you with advice on how to safely burn-off, and how to best prepare yourself and your property for the next fire season.

Before lighting a burn-off, we urge residents to always notify their neighbours and register their burn either online via firepermits.vic.gov.au or by calling the Burn-Off Notification Line on 1800 668 511.

Always check and adhere to your council’s local laws and regulations before burning off.
